May 11th 2014 – National Children’s Day
Children and families at Highfield Adventure Playground in Sharrow are excitedly celebrating winning a £10,000 grant from Trusthouse Charitable Foundation. The money will be spent on essential staffing at the playground, following the council’s withdrawal of funding for staff.
The Friends of Adventures Community Group have successfully raised over £30,000 in the last year to keep ‘Adventures’ open. They have worked on the Steering Group with Sharrow Community Forum and the Council to ensure a sustainable and safe future for the staffed adventure playground. Management is now in the hands of SCF who have appointed staffing for the year ahead.
Highfield Adventure Playground is an exciting, adventurous and free place for families to play with an enormous tunnel slide, a wild zip wire and a popular water pump in the summer with channel digging in the sand. Often free arts and crafts activities are organised. There are indoor and outdoor toddler areas, over 8’s can play there without a parent and the older kids enjoy the pool and table tennis. It is always free and everyone is welcomed from allover the city, usually with a cup of tea and a biscuit!
