Many people in the local community have the potential to contribute both to their own participation in the economy and to the economic development of the city and the region. The opportunities SCF are hoping to create now and in the future are designed to build confidence and increase choices that will harness the potential and overcome barriers preventing individuals, in particular the most marginalised, from fulfilling that potential. ![]() ![]() ![]() Learning and volunteering opportunities are important ingredients for increasing life choices and building the confidence of local people. SCF’s vision is to encourage the participation of active citizens in the area whether that is through offering new skills and training or work experience through voluntary opportunities. The 2009 edition of the Adult Learning Directory for Sharrow and Broomhall is now available as a download here . This list all the places that provide learning opportunities. A paper-based version will be available in various locations in the area later in November - information to follow shortly. SCF is committed to offering help to local people who require information or advice that helps this process happen. We are currently organising initial assessment paperwork that will capture information about what people are interested in getting involved in. The information will allow us to be able to find the appropriate way forward for individuals and to connect them more quickly to their areas of interest. SCF also works closely with Local Community Learning Coordinators, Key Workers and partners offering training and advice in the area. The aim is to engage individuals, draw up learning plans and identify progression routes. There is also a Local Learning Forum that meets regularly to plan activity and ensure that there is a coordinated approach to learning in general and ensuring that gaps in learning provision are identified and steps made to offer this additional support. The forum also links into city-wide initiatives and works closely with OFFER (the city-wide network for all of the voluntary, community and faith organizations in Sheffield). SCF are at the heart of a number of projects and activities designed to encourage learning and volunteering in Sharrow such as:
... and other skills and training opportunities SCF have and will continue to organise events, training sessions and provide links to activities. |
